Information about Sue-Ann Commissiong
A native of Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago, Sue-Ann C. Commissiong is a graduate of the City University of New York. She attended both the College of Staten Island and Hunter College earning a Bachelor’s of her own design in a) Creative Writing For and About Women and b) The Anthropology of Race, Politics and Gender. In January 2007, Sue-Ann earned an Individualised Master’s in Creative Writing and Post-Colonial Literature at Goddard College, Vermont.
Sue-Ann won the Sylvia Faulkner award at Hunter College for her manuscript Seeds in the Wind: from Petit Valley to Staten Island. Academically, and as a writer, Sue-Ann will document her work to impart the knowledge she has gained through her life experiences. She would like to travel extensively, using opportunities in this field for gaining more insight and understanding of the world, but moreover, a deeper appreciation and respect for the sacredness of all life. She has studied at the University of Hilo, Hawaii, and also the University of Shanghai, China. Sue-Ann has received Honorable mention from Writer’s Digest; she has been published by lliad Press, The National Library of Poetry, Serpentine, Ages & Stages, and The Caribbean Newspaper.
In her spare time, Sue-Ann studies Yoga, Spiritual dances, Samba and Capoeira (Brazilian Martial Arts). She also enjoys outdoor activities such as jogging, spending time with friends, and loves reading and writing poetry. Sue-Ann believes “Everyday becomes more sacred when we move in time with our own special natures, striving for self-improvement and learning from our mistakes.”
